I received the following email from a friend of mine, Vasudha Gupta - enjoy this lovely variation on the recipe for smoothie:

I have been preparing my fruits smoothie now for several years and have been taking it as my only standard breakfast. I can not even recall how it came about. But surprizingly after 6 months I went for my routine yearly medical check up and my blood test showed that my good cholesterol had gone up from about 49 to 65! My bad cholesterol had come down so that my total cholesterol was still under 190 as it usually is! Since then my husband too got converted to taking this smoothie for breakfast. I have shared it with many many people, but not everyone uses it as religiously as I do.
So here is the recipe.
1) one banana.2) A bunch of blueberries.3) A bunch of strawberries.4) Any other seasonal fruit like mango/pomegranate/pineapple.5) A spoonful of Flax seeds grounded.6) A spoonful of Wheat germs.7) 1/4 cup dried raisins/dates/cherries etc,soaked overnight in a small amount of water.7) 2 to 3 walnuts.8) A little piece of ginger and a little piece of fresh tumeric.8) 12 to 16oz. of no fat milk.

Blend it in a smoothie.

It is delicious and a powerhouse of energy, a whole day's diet of omega 3; proteins and fiber.
It is so darn healthy and deliciously satisfying all at the same time.

Hi Gulzhan,
That's pretty much what I have been doing. On a couple of days in the week, I have a hot cereal as breakfast and on others I have the smoothie. The smoothie by itself is a pretty complete meal - rich and nutritious.

Thanks, Subhash! We tried and we like it!
I actually realized that I can substitute my regular breakfast (oatmill ) with this smoothie. After I had one cap of smothie I could not finish my oatmill. I probaly will alternate from now on.

Thanks for sharing, I am going to try it out and let you know, Satish enjoys smoothies. Try the one below…

Strawberry Smoothie with Dates

A strawberry smoothie with a surprise of sweetness, dates! The almonds add a nice unexpected flavor as well. This is slightly unusual strawberry smoothie.
Ingredients:
* ½ cup strawberries
* ¼ cup almonds, soaked
* 3 dates, pitted and soaked
* 1 cup water
Soak the almonds and the dates separately (for at least several hours), then rinse. Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

Very nutritious. Not my receipe, got it from the “Friday” magazine here in the UAE.
