podcast channel

As you may be aware, I have been offering monthly workshops wherein I discuss various aspects of yoga philosophy. The main focus in these workshops is to discuss the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in some depth. In addition, from time to time, I also discuss concepts from the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and other related ancient scriptures. In order to preserve these talks for future reference, I have been making an audio recording of these discussions and sharing them with the participants. These audio recordings are now available on the podcast channel on my blog. You are welcome to download these audio recordings for your use. In addition, you can listen to these podcasts as well as subscribe to them on itunes as well.

youtube channel

As you would have noticed from many of the recent posts on my blog, I have been adding short videos of many of the commonly practiced asana and pranayama sequences. I strongly urge you to subscribe to my youtube channel and visit the channel frequently to get instructions for your own asana and pranayama practices. Please share the link to the channel with your friends who might benefit from these detailed video instructions.
I would love to hear your feedback and, of course, would welcome suggestions for future videos that you would like to see on the channel.

Movement therapy puts seniors on path to stronger cognitive health

"Yoga combines poses that stretch, strengthen and improve balance with mindful breathing, meditation and chanting. Practicing yoga can help people of all ages feel relief from depression and anxiety, which is a wonderful reason for seniors and their caregivers to practice a routine together.

Yoga can also lower inflammation, which is regularly implicated in cognitive decline. According to Harvard Health, yoga can improve neuroplasticity—meaning new pathways are made that improve recall, learning and other cognitive functions."

A Christian influencer warned that 'Yoga Barbie' doll spreads satanism and could lead to children being 'possessed by demons'

A Christian micro-influencer has sparked ridicule after she said that a yoga-themed Barbie doll spreads satanism and could lead to children being "possessed by demons."

Yasmeen Suri, who has close to 21,000 followers on Facebook, shared a photo of Mattel's "Breathe With Me" Barbie doll in a post warning parents against the toy. The Barbie, which retails for $24.99, is seated cross-legged and plays five "guided meditation exercises," according to its website.

Dr's Casebook: Profound health benefits of yoga, meditation and tai chi

Dr Keith Souter writes: Many studies have demonstrated that they have a beneficial effect in patients suffering from conditions including depression, high blood pressure, diabetes and arthritis. They can even help during cancer treatment.

It is not just that they help the person to feel relaxed, but because they cause the release of various chemicals and hormones in the body.

Several studies have shown that yoga causes the release of a particular neurotransmitter called GABA, or gamma-aminobutyric acid, one of the so-called feel-good brain chemicals. People with depression and anxiety often have low levels of it, hence yoga is a natural antidepressant.

Can yoga help treat PTSD?

"According to Bollaert, while some of their research participants are younger veterans in their late-20s or early-30s, the cohort also includes Vietnam veterans who have lived with PTSD for decades. It is important to acknowledge that they have not had access to successful treatments, and there is a strong sense that they have tried many different methods throughout the years, she says.

Participant response has been overwhelmingly positive, the researchers say, citing strong attendance at each yoga session. Fitzgerald partially credits this to the instructor who was specially trained through the Veterans Yoga Project, a national program that specifically looks at yoga as a modality and includes components of mindfulness and mindful resilience."
