Vrikshasana (Tree Pose) with video
Vrikshasana (tree pose)
The Tree Pose (Vrikshasana) (वृक्षासन) is one of the most commonly practiced one-leg balancing poses. In its final position, the Tree pose represents the grace and stability of a tall tree.
The Tree Pose (Vrikshasana) is a relatively simple pose to practice and yet provides all the benefits of the one-leg balancing poses mentioned here.
My friend, Maanasa Sunkara, has graciously agreed to feature in this video to demonstrate the Vrikshasana and its variations. I hope you will enjoy practicing with the video.

Yoga Sutra study group, 2nd and 4th Saturday
podcast channel
As you may be aware, I have been offering monthly workshops wherein I discuss various aspects of yoga philosophy. The main focus in these workshops is to discuss the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in some depth. In addition, from time to time, I also discuss concepts from the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and other related ancient scriptures. In order to preserve these talks for future reference, I have been making an audio recording of these discussions and sharing them with the participants. These audio recordings are now available on the podcast channel on my blog. You are welcome to download these audio recordings for your use. In addition, you can listen to these podcasts as well as subscribe to them on itunes as well.
youtube channel
As you would have noticed from many of the recent posts on my blog, I have been adding short videos of many of the commonly practiced asana and pranayama sequences. I strongly urge you to subscribe to my youtube channel and visit the channel frequently to get instructions for your own asana and pranayama practices. Please share the link to the channel with your friends who might benefit from these detailed video instructions.
I would love to hear your feedback and, of course, would welcome suggestions for future videos that you would like to see on the channel.

Study using yoga breathing technique to improve mental health for health care workers
Front-line health care workers have been placed in uniquely challenging situations since COVID-19 surfaced and many are struggling with mental health issues. That’s why researchers at the Lawson Health Research Institute have launched the BREATH study, which will compare two types of interventions to help build resilience for front line health care workers. Sixty participants are being recruited for the study. Half will use a breath-based yoga intervention called Sudarshan Kriya Yoga and the other half will use a Health Enhancement Program with specific health self-management techniques.

Yoga Improves Cognitive Function And Mood
Multiple measurements of mood, as determined by the Profile of Mood Scale, improved in the yoga treatment session, including: reduced tension-anxiety, reduced depression-dejection, reduced anger-hostility, reduced fatigue, reduced confusion, and increased vigor. Cognitive function improved as determined by the Stroop test. Additionally, vigor was correlated with cognitive function; as vigor increased, cognitive function improved.

The Functional Medicine Approach to COVID-19: Nutrition and Lifestyle Practices for Strengthening Host Defense
The developing symptoms of COVID-19, as well as the progression of illness and fatality, are a clearly a function of the overall health status of the individual. Complex, chronic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, and diabetes are directly correlated with risk of disease severity and mortality. We explore lifestyle interventions that have specifically been demonstrated to strengthen host defense, reduce the probability and mitigate the severity of viral infection. Lifestyle interventions, from a Functional Medicine perspective, include nutrition, sleep, exercise, stress reduction, and connection. These factors, when in balance, provide a foundation for optimal health and immune function.
