Enjoying the journey

We often hear statements like, "I'll be happy when I get a promotion", 'I'll be happy when I get married", "I'll be happy when I get a divorce", "I'll be happy when I have a million dollars in my bank account", "I'll be happy when I ....", and the list goes on. A person with this kind of mindset is always dissatisfied with the present situation and constantly seeking happiness in a future event. I recently came across the term "destination addiction" which is used in psychology to represent the above mindset. It represents a belief that happiness can only be achieved when one attains a certain future goal. Such a person finds something missing or lacking in the present situation and can find no peace or contentment in the present. When this person attains a much sought-after goal, he immediately sets his eyes on a higher goal.

My book on Pranayama
 Pranayama
I recently published my book, “Pranayama for energy, vigor and vitality”. This book contains detailed instructions on all the Pranayama practices that I cover in the various yoga courses that I offer. You are welcome to get a printed version of the book from me ($10). You can also buy the book on Amazon – both kindle version and printed version are available.
As you are aware, buyers depend on product reviews on Amazon to make their buying decision. Once you obtain a copy of the book, I'd truly appreciate your writing a review on Amazon. That will help promote the book further so more people can get the book and derive benefits from their pranayama practices.

Yoga in the News
Popular type of yoga linked to higher rates of falls among older Australians
A major study from the University of Sydney has shown that a popular style of yoga increased falls in older people by a third, in a result that has surprised researchers. The research, published in the Lancet Healthy Longevity, looked at the effect of an Iyengar yoga-based exercise program as part of a randomized control trial involving 700 participants aged 60 and older.

Rhythmic yoga breathing produces measurable brain activity linked to deep relaxation
Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, in collaboration with Sri Sri Institute of Advanced Research and Fortis Escort Heart Institute, report that rhythmic breathing in Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY) produces measurable shifts in brain rhythms associated with deep relaxation. The team finds that SKY practice increases theta and delta brain activity while reducing alpha power.

Yoga isn’t just for flexibility. It may also protect brain health
Anyone who has taken a yoga class knows how relaxing it can be to set aside the day’s worries and focus on breathing, gentle movements, healing stretches and guided meditation, even if just for an hour. A growing body of research suggests the soothing powers of yoga may go further than temporarily easing the day’s stress. Yoga is emerging as a potential prescription to boost brain power, offset cognitive decline and help prevent dementia.

Mindfulness meditation boosts attention across all age groups
A new study from the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology reveals that just 30 days of guided mindfulness meditation can significantly enhance key aspects of attentional control - especially how quickly and accurately people direct their focus - regardless of age. The study is among the first to use eye tracking, a powerful and objective measure of attention, to test the effects of mindfulness training on young, middle-aged, and older adults. The findings demonstrate that even short-term meditation can lead to measurable cognitive improvements, said USC Leonard Davis School postdoctoral researcher Andy Jeesu Kim, the study's first author.
