Hip anatomy
In human anatomy, the hip joint is a ball-and-socket type joint and is formed where the thigh bone (femur) meets the pelvis. The femur has a ball-shaped head on its end that fits into a socket formed in the pelvis, called the acetabulum. Large ligaments, tendons, and muscles around the hip joint hold the bones (ball and socket) in place and keep it from dislocating. The hip joint is one of the largest joints in the body and is a major weight-bearing joint.
Tight hips are often the cause for various sports injuries. Tightness in this area can also cause chronic pain not only in the hips but also thighs, knees or the spine. While practicing yoga, tightness of these muscles can lead to poor posture, inability to get into certain asanas, and many other issues.
In this yoga intensive, we’ll gradually build our practice to engage movement of the hips in various asana sequences to loosen and strengthen the hip area.
I look forward to your enthusiastic participation. Please share this email with your own distribution lists. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
