I am pleased to present an audio recording of the monthly workshop on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali held on Saturday, 5/16/20.
Sutras covered:
-
Sutra 2.18: prakāśa-kriyā-sthiti-śīlaṁ bhūtendriya-ātmakaṁ bhoga-apavarga-arthaṁ dr̥śyam ॥18॥
The seen (Prakriti) is of the nature of the three gunas: illumination (sattva), activity (rajas) and inertia (tamas); and consists of the elements and sense organs. Its purpose is to provide both experiences and liberation to the Purusha. -
Sutra 2.19: viśeṣa-aviśeṣa-liṅga-mātra-aliṅgāni guṇaparvāṇi ॥19॥
The stages of the gunas are specific (vishesha), non-specific (avishesha), defined (linga-matra) and undefinable (alinga).
